When Wyford Farm was built in 1882 it was a trading post and half way stop for ox wagons transporting supplies to the gold mines. The vicinity featured a small village including the independent Orange Free State customs house until the advent of the railway. Wyford Farm is located on van Reenen's Pass (the main pass through the Drakensberg mountains). van Reenen is on the N3 midway between Johannesburg and Durban and 40Km from either Harrismith or Ladysmith..
Accommodation available at Wyford FarmAloe Cottage has one bedroom with twin beds and an en suite bathroom with bath and a loft area suitable for two children. There is a lounge cum dining area and a full kitchen which has lovely views of the mountains, the garden which has a braai area, is enclosed and suitable for guests dogs. The Old Trading Store has two bedrooms, one with a double bed and en suite bathroom with bath and one with twin beds. There is another second bathroom with shower and a very large living area with extra beds which incorporates a fireplace. It also has a separate fully equipped kitchen, a wide verandah and a braai area. Poplar Cottage has two bedrooms, one with en suite shower bathroom and double bed and one with twin beds with a second bathroom with bath. There is a large loft area with up to four extra beds. The lounge, dining area and kitchen are in one large room with a fireplace and the garden has a braai area and is enclosed and suitable for dogs. The Garden Cotttage, overlooking the swimming pool, is a one bedroom cottage with a double and a single bed and a small sitting area with fireplace, a kitchenette and bathroom with bath. The garden is also enclosed and has a braai area. The Zulu Hut is a traditional beehive Zulu hut which has twin beds plus a bed settee suitable for two children, when necessary. The ablution with shower is outside and there is a braai area which overlooks the dam in front of the house. It offers guests a special experience in traditional African accommodation Facilities at Wyford FarmAmenities offered to guests are a swimming pool, horse riding (R35 charge), mountain biking (these can be hired at R15 per day or guests can bring their own), bird watching and mountain walks. Fly fishing is available 1km away. Pets can normally be accepted by prior arrangement. Children are able to enjoy the freedom of wide open spaces as well as experience a working farm with pigs, cattle and poultry.
