Located at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains and halfway between Cape Town and George, Swellendam is the third oldest permanent settlement in South Africa. It is the perfect stopover from which to explore the Southern Cape, Breede River Valley and Klein Karoo.

Swellendam offers excellent accommodation and restaurants, sporting facilities which include a 9-hole golf course, hiking- horse- and mountain bike trails, as well as water sports and sunset cruises on the Buffeljachts Dam and the Breede River. Various arts and crafts studios, a Faerie Sanctuary, youngberry farm and preserved flower centre are open to the public.

  A leading cultural history museum comprising various historical buildings, open-air exhibits, restaurants and a craft shop;
• Bontebok National Park: TThis unique reserve is 6km out of Swellendam and  has seven distinct eco-systems and is an excellent spot from which to view the Southern Right whales with their calves from August - November.For further information, contact the Swellendam Tourism Bureau.
• Marloth Nature Reserve: Situated in the Langeberg mountains. Hiking trails have been established, as well as several day walks.
