South African Bushveld

The South African Bushveld is an experience that should be included in any holiday to South Africa. Bushveld experiences can be found in lots of areas in South Africa typically in game parks with little bush camps.

Ellisras

Bush camp in the bushveld South AfricaA fast-growing town on the banks of the Mogol River, Ellisras is the last stopover for bushveld safaris en route to Botswana and the Okavango Delta. The region is world famous among hunters. Also known for excellent fishing in the nearby Mokolo Dam. 

Percy Fyfe Nature Reserve

North-east of Potgietersrus, the Percy Fyfe Nature Reserve provides sanctuary for game such as waterbuck, kudu, impala and buffalo, and attracts a rich bird life. The reserve is primarily a breeding centre for roan, sable and tsessebe. Accommodation in bushveld bush camps.

Lapalala

A sanctuary in the Waterberg mountains, only 300 km by road from Johannesburg. This is an area of true wilderness with a spectacular diversity of plants and trees. A great variety of game, Lapalala is home to black & white rhino and a rich bird life. The Lapalala Wilderness School is an outdoor classroom where young people learn about the intricate workings of nature in the wilderness and bushveld.

Nylsvlei Nature Reserve

Zeba - Animals of the South African bushveldIn the vacinity of Naboomspruit, the sprawling flood plain of the Nyl River is a magnet for birds, and for those who enjoy admiring them. More then 400 species frequent the area. When the river overflows in the summer, thousands of herons, ducks and cranes, among other species, flock to the vlei. The reserve has one of the greatest concentrations of waterfowl and bushveld birds in South Africa. Spring and summer are best for birders.

Potgietersrus

A mining and agricultural center. There are several nature reserves in the vicinity. Among them, the Potgietersrus Nature Reserve supports indigenous and exotic game, and is maintained by the National Zoological Gardens as a game breeding centre. The Arend Dieperink Museum has a fine cultural-historical collection. In the district, the Makapan Caves are notable for their fossil. Annual Event: Potgietersrus Show in March and the Biltong Festival in October.

Thabazimbi

Easily reached from Gauteng by car or plane, the district has a large concentration of private game reserves. With the recent addition of the Marakeli Game Park, it's easy to understand why Thabazimbi is one of the fastest eco-tourist growth points in the country. Some of the best game reserves offer conducted game drives, comfortable accommodation and excellent cuisine.

Warmbaths

The southern gateway to the Limpopo Province is renowned for its hot springs which attract more than a million visitors a year. A holiday town in every sense of the word, Warmbaths has a range of sports facilities and good accommodation establishments. In the vicinity there are bushveld game reserves and a number of leisure resorts.
