Your Guide to the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands

Route 62 - Western Cape South Africa

Route 62 in the Western Cape is becoming a popular travel route for visitors to South Africa. Route 62 provides a circular route for visitors to the Garden route who do not wish to travel the same roads in both directions.

Route 62 - Western Cape South AfricaThere are many similarities between the well known Route 66 in America and the South African Route 62 that links Cape Town to Port Elizabeth. Both routes were established in the 1920's and were essentially developed to link rural communities with harbour towns, thus enabling farmers to transport produce for redistribution to the country at large and overseas markets.

Both routes were by-passed by the development of high speed National highways.  Route 66 is being re-discovered as a relaxing and scenic route for holidaying Americans and we believe South Africans and overseas visitors will find the same on our Route 62.

The Route 62 offers the visitor an adventure, whether this is in the physical sense or simply a kaleidoscope of scenic experiences. All who have traveled it agree that few places in the world are as stunningly beautiful and so steeped in history as this scenic route.
