Umsuluzi Riverside Lodge is located within the 4000 hectare, malaria-free Umsuluzi Game Park. Located just 30 kilometers off the main tourist artery between Johannesberg and Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands, the Umsuluzi Game Reserve comprises an extensive swath of KwaZulu-Natal's Valley Bushveld, a vegetation type that captures the essence of South Africa.
Umsuluzi lodge provides easily accessible quality accommodation and prides itself in offering guests not only a wonderful bushveld and game experience but also hospitality not to be compared.
Impeccably presented stone and thatch cottages set along the historic Bloukrans River create an immediate sense of space and solitude. In sharp contrast to the harsh landscape, the central reception area at out unique game lodge is a haven of luxury, African style, with thatch, stone and timber finishes to nurture the bushveld experience. Accompanying this tasteful combination of rustic luxury the Lodge offers fully stocked pub facitilies, a first class dinningroom, lounges, open air boma, large wooden sundecks, tea garden and rock swimming pool.
Umsuluzi is well populated with many different bushveld game spieces including giraffe, zebra, kudu, waterbuck and wildebeest, while the neighbouring Weenen Game Reserve hosts large populations of white and black rhino. This rugged bushveld is softened only by the silence, interrupted intermittently by its most common residents, the prolific bird life.
If you can drag yourself away from the rejuvenating experience of the lodge, there is an exciting array of activities available to sap the energy of the most enthusiastic traveller: large bass lurk in the waters of the reserve's dams and fly fishing for yellowtail from the rivers edge proves to be most enjoyable. These waters double as outstanding birding venues, populated by the rare Painted Snipe and resident Fish Eagle. Private battlefield tours, Drakensberg day trips, excellent birding and game safaris, mountain biking, wilderness walks, and horseback safari's offers the guest the opportunity to venture into the unknown wilderness and experience nature from a different perspective.
More than just an accommodation facility Umsuluzi Riverside Lodge allows you to feel Africa between your toes!
