Potgietersrus in the limpopo Province of South Africa is situated between the Waterberg (mountains of water) and Strydpoort Mountains and can trace its origins back to 1852 when Voortrekker leader Hendrick Potgieter established a settlement in this pass. It was the largest district in the old Transvaal Province and is by far the largest in the new Northern Province.
