The Old Jail House Inn and Restaurant offers very affordable self catering accommodation in the Kamberg Valley. What makes the Old Jail House such a great attraction is the added value of the restaurant and the ability to hire quad bikes on the premises.
The Old Jail House Inn and Restaurant is based on a Kamberg property which dates back
to the 1820’s. It was the first ‘Post Office’, ‘Telephone Exchange’
and ‘Police Station’ in the area and its buildings show as they are all
constructed of indigenous stone found right here on the farm.
Self Catering CottageThis property has been lovingly restored to offer a fantastic get away to a self catering cottage which boasts two large bedrooms (cottage sleeps 4 or 6 sharing) with a large bathroom which has a shower and bath. You have your own comfortable lounge and dinning rooms overlooked by a fully equipped open plan kitchen with views to the horse paddock and indigenous forest. Off the lounge is a private verandah with amazing views onto the farm and animal paddocks and fields, shaded by the ancient blue gum trees which stand some 40 meters high. The cottage is partly constructed of raw stone and plastered walls with huge windows which allow you to take in your surroundings. Enjoy the bird life, of which there is an abundance and from time to time you may spot Eland, Reedbuck, Ant bear and Porcupine but to name a few. The Restaurant
Quad Bikes and other activitiesWe have Quad Bikes on the premises which you can hire, take a picnic and explore the farm at your leisure. In addition, we are ten minutes from the Kamberg Nature Reserve where you can take a stunning hike to view 4000 year old Bushman Rock Paintings and only twenty minutes drive from the main rush of the Midlands Meander itself which offers great shopping of local art and craft. The area also caters for fly fishing, mountain biking, hiking, horse riding and just plain relaxing. You may have the opportunity for some game viewing right here on the property, alternatively Weenen Game Reserve is only forty five minutes drive away and offers larger game. In addition Sani Pass and an abundance of other adventures await you.
