Montusi Mountain Lodge – Northern Drakensberg luxury accommodation

landscape

Montusi Mountain Lodge, nestled in the Northern Drakensberg, epitomizes luxury accommodation paired with genuine hospitality amidst the serenity of one of South Africa’s most stunning landscapes. The name “Montusi” originates from the Zulu language, meaning “Mountain in the Mist,” capturing the essence of its ethereal surroundings. Once a deteriorating farm overtaken by invasive wattle trees from Australia, Montusi underwent a remarkable transformation thanks to owner Anthony Carte’s dedication.

Seeking assistance from the Minister of Water Affairs, Kadar Asmal, Carte envisioned preserving the crucial water catchment area. His efforts led to the inception of the nationwide Working for Water scheme, facilitating the eradication of the invasive wattles and the restoration of indigenous vegetation, including the planting of Kikuyu grass. From this endeavor, Montusi Mountain Lodge emerged, a testament to perseverance and environmental stewardship.

Today, guests are warmly welcomed to the magnificent lodge and estate, where the hosts eagerly share their passion and insight into this pristine corner of South Africa. Montusi Mountain Lodge stands as a testament to conservation efforts and the enduring beauty of the Northern Drakensberg region.
