The people of Jeffreys Bay invite you to share their lifestyle. Surf with dolphins, watch whales and their calves playing in the Bay, collect shells as you walk our 34 kilometres of white sandy beaches - gallop your horse along the water's edge and breathe in the clean, fresh air : this is the lifestyle of Jeffreys Bay.

Let the wind take your hair and the water wash your soul - we'd like to invite you home! The town where no one wears a tie - and very few people feel the need for shoes - boast the world's best surfing waves, a superb, mild climate, safe, shell-filled swimming beaches and every modern convenience. Just 72 km west of Port Elizabeth, Jeffreys Bay is the ideal family destination. Dolphin sightings are almost a daily occurrence, and whales come to rest their tails in the Bay between July and October every year (visit our prime land-based whale-watching point on Plane Street - we are part of the Whale Route). Here you'll find some of the best deep-sea, rock, surf and freshwater fishing and, within a short drive of the town centre, exciting adventure activities like horse riding, mountain biking, scuba diving, abseiling, hot air balloon safaris, kloofing, sandboarding, canoeing, sea kayaking and game drives. Man has always been fascinated by shells, and our strong attraction to their endlessly fascinating different varieties hasn't dimmed in the modern world. More than 400 species of sea shells have been collected at Jeffreys Bay - take a walk on our beaches and start your own collection, learn about them at the Jeffreys Bay Shell Museum at Dolphin Beach or buy a piece of shell art from the local crafts people. And don't miss the annual Shell Festival in September - the town's annual celebration of nature's abundance. Surfers in the know regard Jeffreys Bay as one of the world's Top Ten surfing destinations. Although the power and speed of the break at Supertubes provides the ultimate ride, various other breaks in the area are more forgiving and provide 'stoke' for surfers of every level of ability (if you're a novice, local surf schools offer first-rate training to equip you with the necessary skills). The annual internationally-rated surfing competition the Billabong Pro takes place in July. Shopping is a delight in Jeffreys Bay - a stroll through town becomes a journey as you discover a wide variety of surf shops, clothing stores, art-and-craft studios, leather works and novelty shops. For the hungry - choose from an exciting selection of coffee shops, fast-food outlets and fine restaurants. As part of the Kouga Region, the Jeffreys Bay district boasts at least five natural biomes. Nature lovers should visit the Kabeljous Nature Reserve - it has a 4 km hiking trail and, as one of the unspoiled estuaries in the Eastern Cape, offers excellent opportunities for spotting water birds. The 28 hectare Norsekloof Nature Reserve boasts more than 50 species of birds and a 3 km trail - drink in the evocative sights and fragrances of the indigenous fynbos. And don't miss the Seekoei Nature Reserve - it has more than 120 species of birds, a 3 km hike - you reach the start by crossing the river on a raft - a Penguin Rehabilitation Centre and a variety of small mammals. Be sure to visit one of the game farms in close proximity for viewing different species of game and other wildlife including the white rhino. Jeffreys Bay is the ideal base from which to explore the untouched Baviaanskloof Wilderness area, Tsitsikamma, Addo & Shamwari, the Langkloof and Gamtoos Valleys of the Kouga. Make your base in a caravan park, backpackers' dorm, B&B, guest house or hotel - but make sure your base is Jeffreys Bay - the Home of the Perfect Wave. Jeffreys
