Empangeni is situated in Zululand in KwaZulu-Natal South Africa. Empangeni makes for a reasonable half-day stop on the way through Zululand. The only tourist attraction in town is the Empangeni Art and Cultural History Museum, on Turnbull St. The museum has permanent exhibitions on traditional Zulu culture and the early days of the sugar cane industry, as well as a sizeable collection of oil paintings and temporary exhibits of local art. Highlights include photographs of early sugar farms and displays of traditional Zulu clothing and crafts.

Empangeni Tourist InformationEmpangeni lies about 3km west of the N2 on the R34. The R34 runs approximately north-south through town and is also known as Main Rd. Heading north into town from the N2 on Main Rd., the center of town will be to your right, beginning around Turnbull St. and ending at Biyela St. Between Turnbull and Biyela is the main street through town, Maxwell St. Shops and services are here and on Union St., which runs parallel to Maxwell one block to the south but does not intersect Main Rd. But the real motherload of shops and services is in the mall, Sanlam Center, on Maxwell St. between Commercial Rd. and Smith St. Accommodation in Empangeni
