Near Giant’s Castle, surrounded by mountains and nature reserves, Drakensberg Backpackers lies in the heart of the Drakensberg miles away from anywhere. Set against a backdrop of forested mountains, the thatched house overlooks a dam and farmlands dotted with cows and horses. The hostel is close to some of the highest peaks in the area where hiking, climbing and horse riding head the list of Things to Do. Organised trails and hikes vary from 1700m to 3500m in altitude although there is easy access to other spectacular viewpoints. You can explore indigenous forests, swim, sail, try your hand at trout fishing or go on a scenic microlight flight. Local community tours include visits to sangomas and traditional healers. This area is part of a World Heritage site and has some of the finest San rock art in Southern Africa so go in search of the spirit of the bushman… The long and short of it is that you can adventure your butt off or just kick back and do nothing but drink in the views.
Shuttle service from Mooi River Wimpy to meet Baz Bus. Daily shuttle from Estcourt / Pietermaritzburg / Durban (min 2 passengers). Satellite TV. Internet access. Great meals and pub facilities.
