Air strips in the Drakensberg

I am quite frequently asked are there any landing strips of airstrips in the the Drakensberg. Yes, the Drakensberg and Natal Midlands have many air strips and offers a great potential for owners of private planes. There are lots of accommodation establishments near most landing strips and most establishments will provide transport for the airstrip and the establishment. 

  • Estcourt airfield - landing strip Coordinates 9° 2.5' S  29° 54.5' E

Mooi River - Treverton School has a small landing strip near the school

  • Himeville has an airstrip with many B&B's, hotels and self catering accommodation close by. Tel: 033- Length: 750m Elevation: 5100ft Permission before landing: Graham May 082-921-9648 Himeville has lots of accommodation options. Himeville airstrip is close enough for any other accommodation in Underberg too.
  • Lake Naverone is a self catering resort with excellent fly-fishing and has their own private airstrip. They are situated on the Drakensberg Gardens Road and accessible to Drakensberg Gardens Resort, Eland Valley and other smaller places on the road.   • Riverlea is a private lodge for fly-fishing and will open their airstrip for their own guests. Contact Spurgeon on 033-7011145
  • Birds Haven Chalets Cedarville Relax in a comfortable self catering cottage on a 40ha lake at Birds Haven Chalets on a farm in a safe environment near Cedarville, some 200km from Pietermaritzburg by road, or fly in and land on a 1500m long landing strip.
