The thing that stands out most about Castleburn is that it doesn't stand out at all. Architecturally designed to blend into the landscape of the Southern Drakensberg, the resort's most prominent feature is the rocky pinnacles that surround it. With Lake Madingofani at its feet, Castleburn lures eland, reedbuck and around a hundred bird species to its peaceful surrounds.
The architectually designed cottages at Castleburn were thatched and built
with hand-hewn local stone, to stand inconspicuous against their natural milieu.
They are either studio 4-sleepers, 1 bedroom 4-sleepers, 3 bedroom 6-sleepers or
2 bedroom 6-sleepers.
Each cottage has a comfortable lounge, dining room, bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and braai area on the patio.
The dramatic outcrops and crevices of the area are best appreciated from
horseback.
Other activities include:
Examine the splendour of the indigenous fauna and flora, cosseted in the nearby Natal Parks Board Nature Reserve or Garden Coastal Reserve. Join up with the Giant's Cup Hiking trail that passes through Castleburn or make a journey to the little town of Underberg, 30km way. There is also a golf course 25 km from Castleburn.
